Fortec Motorsports rookie Franciszek Cegielski topped the second and final day of GB4 pre-event testing at Snetterton on Friday, as the field completed its preparations ahead of Qualifying and Race 1.
The 16-year-old Polish driver set a 1m48.707s lap during the opening session, when cooler morning conditions produced the fastest running of the day. His benchmark put him 0.394s clear of teammate Thomas Ingram Hill in the combined Friday classification, while championship leader Alex O’Grady completed the top three.
However, Enzo Hallman retained the fastest time across the full two-day test. The Hillspeed driver’s 1m48.624s effort from Thursday remained 0.083s quicker than Cegielski’s Friday benchmark.
Cegielski sets Friday benchmark in opening session
Cegielski immediately moved to the top during Friday morning’s first 30-minute session, producing his 1m48.707s lap on his final tour. The Fortec rookie finished 0.394s ahead of Ingram Hill, giving the team a one-two at the top of the opening classification.
Douglas Motorsport’s Dayton Coulthard followed in third on a 1m49.153s, while Thursday pace-setter Hallman took fourth. Elite Motorsport’s Fred Green completed the top five, with Charlie Smith, Torrin Byrne and Connor Willis next in the order.
The morning session ultimately shaped much of the combined Friday classification. Cegielski, Ingram Hill, Coulthard, Hallman and Green all recorded their best times of the day during the cooler opening running.
Cegielski’s improvement also represented a significant step from Thursday, when he finished 14th overall and 0.878s away from Hallman’s benchmark.
Ingram Hill tops second session
Ingram Hill returned to the top in Session 2 with a 1m49.110s lap as track conditions slowed compared with the morning.
The Silverstone race winner finished 0.334s clear of Green, while rookie Conor Grant put Douglas Motorsport third. O’Grady followed in fourth, just ahead of morning pace-setter Cegielski.
Joshua McLean placed sixth for Pace Performance ahead of teammate Byrne, with Coulthard, Emmilio Valentino Del Grosso and John O’Donnell completing the top 10.
Although Ingram Hill led the session, his 1m49.101s morning lap remained nine thousandths quicker and secured second place in the combined Friday standings. It also marked the second consecutive day that the Fortec driver finished second overall after he followed Hallman on Thursday.
O’Grady strikes late to lead final session
Championship leader O’Grady saved his strongest Friday lap for the end of testing, setting a 1m49.130s on his final tour to lead Session 3.
The KMR Sport driver edged Ingram Hill by just 0.035s, while Hallman finished another 0.125s behind in third. Cegielski took fourth ahead of Green, Willis and Grant.
O’Grady’s late effort also lifted him to third in the combined Friday classification. His 1m49.130s left him 0.423s behind Cegielski and only 0.023s ahead of Coulthard.
Willis and Grant also used the final session to improve their combined positions. Willis climbed to eighth overall with his 1m49.551s, while Grant’s 1m49.604s secured ninth.
Hallman retains overall two-day testing benchmark
Despite Cegielski leading Friday, Hallman leaves pre-event testing with the fastest lap from the two days of running.
His 1m48.624s Thursday effort remained unbeaten, with Cegielski coming closest at just 0.083s behind. Ingram Hill also finished within half a second of Hallman across both days after demonstrating consistent front-running pace in several sessions.
Friday’s combined top 10 remained closely contested. Less than one second covered Cegielski through Byrne in 10th, while Coulthard finished fourth ahead of Hallman and Green. Smith took seventh despite not entering this weekend’s races.
With testing now complete, the focus switches to Saturday’s competitive action. GB4 Qualifying will begin at 11:10 BST before Race 1 starts at 14:55.
