Alpine led the way in FP2 for the 2026 TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, as Jules Gounon placed the #36 Alpine A424 on top of the Hypercar order while the French manufacturer completed a one-two. In LMGT3, Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin set the pace through Eduardo Barrichello.
The second 90-minute practice session in Belgium gave teams another important chance to build their programmes before Saturday’s second round of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship. However, two red flags interrupted proceedings, including one late stoppage after the #78 Akkodis ASP Team Lexus lost a wheel in sector three.
2026 FIA WEC: 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps: FP2: Hypercar
Alpine takes control at Spa
Alpine Endurance Team moved to the top of the Hypercar timesheets in FP2, as Jules Gounon delivered a 2m01.816s in the #36 Alpine A424. Therefore, the French manufacturer made a clear step forward during Thursday afternoon practice at a circuit where it has already shown strong form.
Gounon shares the #36 Alpine with Frédéric Makowiecki and Victor Martins. Their effort placed the car 0.274s clear of the sister #35 Alpine, which completed the manufacturer’s first one-two in a FIA WEC Hypercar session.
The #35 entry of António Félix da Costa, Ferdinand Habsburg and Charles Milesi posted a 2m02.090s. As a result, Alpine ended the day with a strong platform before Friday’s final practice and qualifying preparations.
BMW WRT builds momentum on home soil
BMW M Team WRT also improved its pace from FP1. The Belgian-based squad placed the #20 BMW M Hybrid V8 third with a 2m02.179s, as Robin Frijns, René Rast and Sheldon van der Linde continued to build speed at Team WRT’s home event.
The sister #15 BMW followed in fifth with a 2m02.360s. That placed both BMWs inside the top five and underlined a competitive afternoon for the German manufacturer.
Between the two BMWs, Aston Martin THOR Team took fourth with the #009 Aston Martin Valkyrie. Marco Sørensen set the car’s best lap, while the sister #007 Valkyrie finished eighth as Heart of Racing Team again showed useful pace across both entries.
Ferrari settles into the top six
Ferrari, which led FP1 with Antonio Fuoco in the #50 Ferrari AF Corse 499P, ended FP2 in sixth. The #50 car recorded a 2m02.381s, putting it 0.565s behind Gounon’s benchmark.
The #83 AF Corse Ferrari followed in ninth, while the #51 Ferrari AF Corse 499P, winner at Spa in 2025, finished 11th. Consequently, Ferrari remained within the leading group, although Alpine held the clear advantage on single-lap pace in the afternoon.
Peugeot and Toyota complete the top ten
Team Peugeot TotalEnergies placed seventh with the #94 Peugeot 9X8. The squad focused largely on long-stint work during the session, but still kept the car within 0.585s of the outright pace.
The top ten was completed by the #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid. Toyota, winner of the season-opening race at Imola, appeared to lack outright pace during FP2, with the #7 entry finishing 0.711s off the benchmark. The sister #8 Toyota ended the session in 13th.
Red flags interrupt the session
FP2 featured two red flag periods. Officials first stopped the session for track clearance procedures. Later, the session was interrupted again when Tom Van Rompuy’s #78 Akkodis ASP Team Lexus LMGT3 car required retrieval after losing a wheel in sector three.
Those interruptions limited clean running, although most Hypercar teams still completed meaningful mileage across short and longer runs.

Heart of Racing Aston Martin leads LMGT3
Heart of Racing Team topped the LMGT3 order in FP2 as Eduardo Barrichello put the #23 Aston Martin Vantage at the front. The Brazilian, returning to the FIA WEC field, set a 2m17.769s in the car he shares with Gray Newell and Jonny Adam.
That lap gave Aston Martin a 0.202s advantage over the #34 Racing Team Turkey by TF Corvette. However, the #23 Aston Martin also encountered late-session trouble, as Newell received a five-minute stop-and-go penalty for track limit violations.
Racing Team Turkey stays in contention
Racing Team Turkey by TF continued its strong start to the Spa weekend. After leading LMGT3 in FP1, the #34 Corvette placed second in FP2 with a 2m17.971s.
The Turkish-flagged entry therefore remained one of the leading contenders across Thursday’s running. However, it also received a five-minute stop-and-go penalty for track abuse violations during the session.
Mercedes and Ferrari stay close
Iron Lynx placed third with the #79 Mercedes-AMG. Matteo Cressoni, Lin Hodenius and Johannes Zelger combined to put the car on a 2m18.210s, keeping Mercedes-AMG firmly inside the leading group.
VISTA AF Corse followed closely in fourth with the #21 Ferrari 296 Evo. Simon Mann, François Hériau and Alessio Rovera continued their competitive free practice form as they chase back-to-back Spa victories after their 2025 success.
Lexus shows pace before late drama
Akkodis ASP Team completed the top six with both Lexus entries. The #78 Lexus RC F took fifth, while the #87 sister car followed in sixth.
However, the session ended in dramatic fashion for the team when Tom Van Rompuy lost a wheel in sector three aboard the #78 car. The incident triggered the second red flag and brought another disruption to the afternoon session.
Garage 59 followed in seventh with the #58 McLaren, while the #54 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari, #33 TF Sport Corvette and #88 Proton Competition Ford completed the LMGT3 top ten.

FP3 next at Spa-Francorchamps
Alpine ended Thursday on top in Hypercar after a commanding one-two, while Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin took the LMGT3 honours. Nevertheless, both classes remain tightly packed, and the interruptions in FP2 mean teams will still have important work to complete before qualifying.
The third Free Practice session for the TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps is scheduled for 10:10 local time on Friday, 8 May.
