Jaguar TCS Racing remain full of confidence ahead of the return to Shanghai for Formula E, a track that has been a happy hunting ground in the past for both Mitch Evans and Antonio Felix da Costa.

More on the table in Sanya for Jaguar as Formula E championship lead remains intact

It was a mixed weekend in Sanya for both Jaguar drivers: Mitch Evans suffered contact early on which dropped him to outside the points while da Costa secured fourth place in the E-prix.

The championship leader acknowledged that, despite the result, the pace was there and a good result could have been executed.

Given the position we were in before the contact we knew we had good pace and that we are still in a strong position in the Driver’s and Team’s championship,” Evans explained.

The Kiwi continues to head the championship standings with 128 points. His gap to Oliver Rowland in second remains the same though after the Brit also failed to score in Sanya.

Evans’s teammate da Costa endured a much more fruitful weekend in China. The Formula E veteran finished fourth overall moving the Portuguese driver up to sixth in the championship standings.

Despite his strong showing the Jaguar driver was aware more was on the table that weekend. “We know we could have taken even more from Sanya,” admitted da Costa.

Return to Formula E happy hunting ground brings confidence boost

While results may have not been what the team was hoping for, the return to Shanghai for Formula E will undoubtable provide Jaguar with a much needed confidence boost as they look to strengthen their grip on both championships.

Victory last season with Nick Cassidy will be fresh in both driver’s minds who will look to emulate their predecessor.

“I’ve enjoyed success in Shanghai in the past,” Evans detailed, reminiscing on his Season 10 triumph around the Chinese track.

“We know we can be competitive there and hopefully we can come away from both races with a great haul of points.”

Evans’ teammate da Costa mirrored his comments claiming him and the team had “added motivation heading into Shanghai.”

“The races come thick and fast at this point of the season, so I’m really looking forward to the next rounds in Shanghai,” da Costa explained.

“Myself and the team have scored strongly there in the past and the aim is to do so again this weekend.”

Team Principle Ian James added: “Given the way the team and drivers have performed in Shanghai previously we’re looking forward to the double-header this weekend.”
