Thomas Bearman enters the 2026 F4 season with a mixture of ambition, curiosity, and the drive to define himself as a driver in his own right. In an exclusive interview with Pit Debrief ahead of his Italian F4 and E4 Championship campaigns with Van Amersfoort Racing, he opened up about what success means to him, how he sees his future in motorsport, and how he hopes to evolve both on and off the track.
His reflections reveal a young driver embracing versatility, enjoying the challenge of racing, and setting his sights on continuous growth.
Bearman racing for passion, not just results, as he builds towards future in motorsport
For Bearman, motorsport is more than a career—it is a genuine passion. Every race, every session, represents an opportunity to enjoy the sport he loves while developing as a driver. He views success not only in terms of results but also as the enjoyment and mastery of the craft. He describes the ultimate goal clearly, keeping perspective on what truly excites him about racing.
“Yeah, obviously, I think the main goal is Formula 1 for sure, but I wouldn’t see something other than that as a failure. I think a career in motorsport would be the ultimate passion because, you know, just to have a job that is your passion is something that could really, really excite me.”
Bearman emphasised that the joy of racing remains central to his journey. He continues to explore every opportunity with curiosity and energy, keeping his love for the sport as a constant driver.
“Obviously, I do this now for fun, and the idea of that potentially being my job one day is really exciting. And that’s all I aim for, really. I think all racing is cool. I’m fascinated by it all.”
He enjoys the breadth of motorsport, from single-seaters to other categories, seeing them as complementary experiences that help him grow as a driver.
“And yeah, even like me and my brother, when we play on the sim, we never drive F1. We do everything else. And it’s just that motorsport is such a wide thing. I think that’s so cool, to me, that you can be professional in so many different categories in motorsport—and any of that would be a success for me. And I think that’s my goal.”

Bearman on exploring versatility as he looks towards his future in motorsport
While Bearman is committed to single-seaters, he also has a genuine interest in endurance racing. He sees it as an opportunity to test not only his driving skills but also his stamina, strategic thinking, and adaptability in new contexts. He values these experiences for the way they challenge him physically and mentally, complementing the skills he hones in F4.
“Yeah, for sure. I think me and my brother—and my dad, actually, funnily enough—have sort of mentioned doing a Le Mans 24 together, which would be pretty insane. Obviously, getting a team for that’s a bit of a different question.”
Endurance racing represents a different type of challenge, one that excites Bearman as it pushes the limits of his body, mind, and focus over extended periods. The complexity of managing a car over hours, dealing with night driving, and coordinating with teammates is an enticing prospect for him.
“But still, I have a big passion for endurance racing, for sure. And I think me and my brother would do that together as well. It’s just that sort of testing your body as well as your driving ability, as well as, you know, managing sleep and all these things. It really looks like something really exciting. And yeah, I think something like that would be amazing. I don’t see that as a failure—if not, [it is] one of the better things to do.”
The transferable skills from single-seaters
Beyond the excitement of endurance racing, Bearman recognises that single-seater racing provides a strong technical foundation that benefits any form of motorsport. The discipline, precision, and adaptability he develops in F4 and other feeder series equip him with skills that are valuable across different racing formats.
“Obviously, Nico [Varrone] switching over between endurance and single-seaters is a tough one. But I think once you progress strong enough up the single-seater ladder, you can compete in whatever form of motorsport you choose.”
He sees each level of the single-seater ladder as an essential building block. The experience gained in competitive categories not only improves racecraft but also develops strategic thinking, technical understanding, and adaptability—qualities that translate directly to endurance racing and other disciplines.
“And I think that’s what all these feeder series drivers prove. Single-seater racing is some of the best levels in the world, and that translates to whatever class you do. And yeah, the skills you learn in single-seaters are obviously really important, and you can carry them forward to whatever you want to pursue.”
By approaching his career this way, Bearman ensures that his experience in F4 serves as both a launchpad and a versatile toolkit, ready to be applied wherever his racing ambitions take him.

A message to his future self
When asked what he would say to his future self decades from now, Bearman takes a thoughtful perspective. He sees value in pausing to reflect on his journey, recognising that the lessons learned and challenges faced today will shape both his career and his character. By imagining this conversation with his future self, he reinforces the importance of growth, perspective, and gratitude for the process.
“Probably noticing how far I’ve hopefully come. Just, you know, also I think I’ll reminisce happily on these days, like I did with karting. Just because, in the moment, I’m stressed about all these races and stuff, but in the future, it’s all play.”
He acknowledges that the intensity of racing—practice sessions, qualifying, and competition—can feel overwhelming in the moment. Yet, he understands that these experiences are building blocks, contributing to both skill development and personal growth. Looking back, he hopes to see the progress clearly, appreciating each step of the journey rather than just the results.
“Hopefully, [I’ll] just think about how far I’ve come, how much I’ve learned along the way, and how much my skills have developed.”
Bearman’s reflections reveal a maturity beyond his years, balancing ambition with an appreciation for process, learning, and enjoyment. Approaching his career with passion, curiosity, and a willingness to explore multiple motorsport disciplines, he uses F4 as a foundation while setting his sights on endurance racing and beyond. His focus on continual growth, versatility, and personal development highlights a driver who combines determination with mindfulness, laying the groundwork for a long and fulfilling career in motorsport.
