SRO America has revealed the provisional 2027 GTWC America calendar, featuring seven race weekends across several of North America’s leading circuits.
The campaign will begin at Sonoma Raceway in April before GTWC America travels to Circuit of The Americas for the inaugural Texas 8 Hour. The new endurance contest replaces the Indianapolis 8 Hour as the championship’s flagship event.
Meanwhile, Watkins Glen International will return after a five-year absence, while Indianapolis Motor Speedway will remain on the schedule as the season finale. GTWC America will also retain the three-hour regular-season race format introduced in 2026.
Sonoma retains GTWC America season opener
GTWC America will begin its 2027 campaign at Sonoma Raceway from 2–4 April.
The California circuit will once again open the SRO America season on the West Coast. Its technical layout will provide the first competitive test for teams and drivers before the championship moves to Texas.
From there, GTWC America will head to COTA for the most significant change on the revised calendar.
Texas 8 Hour becomes GTWC America’s flagship event
The inaugural Texas 8 Hour will take place at COTA from 7–9 May.
The event will replace the Indianapolis 8 Hour as GTWC America’s longest race and will also form part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge calendar. Consequently, GTWC America teams will compete alongside international and regional GT3 entrants at the Austin circuit.
COTA has become one of the most important venues on the SRO America schedule, attracting strong crowds and increased fan engagement. Therefore, the organisation will move its marquee endurance contest to a circuit that already plays a central role in GTWC America.
The Texas 8 Hour will also mark the only departure from the three-hour race format used throughout the rest of the GTWC America season.
Watkins Glen returns to GTWC America calendar
GTWC America will return to Watkins Glen International for the first time since 2022. The championship will visit the New York circuit from 21–23 May, only two weeks after the Texas 8 Hour.
Watkins Glen’s fast and flowing 3.4-mile layout will create a different challenge for the GTWC America field. Its high-speed corners, elevation changes and limited margin for error should make the event one of the most demanding rounds of the year.
Furthermore, Watkins Glen’s return adds a prominent East Coast destination to the calendar and strengthens GTWC America’s geographical reach across the United States.
Road Atlanta stays on schedule after successful comeback
GTWC America will return to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta from 18–20 June. The series raced at the Georgia circuit in 2026 for the first time since 2011. Following that successful return, Road Atlanta will retain its place immediately before the traditional summer break.
Its elevation changes, fast corners and narrow racing surface should once again test the GTWC America grid.
The event will also conclude an intense stretch of three rounds in six weeks, beginning with the Texas 8 Hour and continuing through Watkins Glen.
Road America opens final title run
GTWC America competition will resume at Road America from 27–29 August.
The Wisconsin venue will again feature the popular full-field parade through Elkhart Lake, giving fans the opportunity to see the cars and drivers away from the circuit.
Road America will also begin the final stage of the GTWC America championship battle. Teams will contest the last three rounds across just over one month following the summer break.
Barber Motorsports Park will then host the penultimate weekend from 10–12 September. Its technical layout will offer GTWC America contenders their final opportunity to strengthen their championship positions before the finale.
Indianapolis gains GTWC America season-finale role
Indianapolis Motor Speedway will remain on the GTWC America calendar despite losing the eight-hour event to COTA.
Instead, IMS will host the seventh and final round from 1–3 October. GTWC America will use its regular three-hour race format as the championship battles reach their conclusion.
The change gives Indianapolis a new role within the SRO America season. Rather than staging the championship’s longest race, the historic venue will decide the final GTWC America standings.
As a result, IMS will remain one of the most important stops on the calendar despite the Texas 8 Hour taking over as the flagship endurance event.
