The 2026 Formula Regional Americas Championship (FRAC) reached its halfway stage with Evagoras Papasavvas leading the Drivers’ Championship, although Brady Golan transformed the title fight by sweeping all three races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Cooper Shipman led after an unpredictable opening round at NOLA Motorsports Park before Papasavvas moved ahead at Road America. The Crosslink Motorsports rookie then extended his advantage at his home Mid-Ohio round, but Golan reduced the gap to 17.5 points with the strongest weekend performance of the season at Indianapolis.
However, the official standings remain incomplete because they exclude the Indianapolis Race 1 points while officials consider an appeal. Papasavvas officially leads Golan by 17.5 points, while Shipman, Kekai Hauanio and Christian Bogle complete the championship’s leading five. Crosslink Motorsports also holds a narrow seven-point advantage over Toney Driver Development in the Teams’ Championship.
2026 FRAC Round 1: NOLA produces three winners and an early Shipman lead
NOLA Motorsports Park immediately established the competitive nature of the 2026 season. Less than half a second covered the leading five drivers in Qualifying, while Papasavvas claimed pole on his FRAC debut with a 1:33.626 for Crosslink Motorsports.
However, contact between Papasavvas and team-mate Hauanio changed Race 1 at the start. Golan capitalised for Toney Driver Development and controlled the contest despite a late caution period. Penalties behind him promoted Bogle to second and Shipman to third, giving Toney Driver Development a one-two finish.
Race 2 produced another major change. Golan stalled and encountered contact, while Hauanio controlled much of the race after moving ahead of Shipman. Nevertheless, a late mechanical problem prevented Hauanio from changing gears and allowed Papasavvas to complete a final-lap pass for his maiden victory. Shipman finished second, while Hauanio salvaged third.
Shipman then completed the weekend with his first FRAC victory in Race 3. He managed his tyres effectively, passed Hauanio and built an advantage of more than six seconds. Hauanio finished second, while penalties for Papasavvas and Golan promoted Luke Powers to third. Shipman’s results of third, second and first placed him at the top of the championship with 58 points.
Meanwhile, Whitney Strickland won the opening two Masters Cup races before Anthony Autiello claimed the final class victory. Toney Driver Development left NOLA four points ahead of Crosslink Motorsports in the Teams’ Championship.

2026 FRAC Round 2: Papasavvas takes control during weather-hit Road America weekend
Papasavvas continued his strong Qualifying form at Road America and claimed his second consecutive pole position. He beat Golan by 0.153 seconds, while Shipman, Bogle and Harbir Dass completed the leading five.
Golan made the stronger Race 1 start and immediately moved ahead of Papasavvas. The Toney Driver Development driver controlled the race through a mid-event restart and became the first repeat winner of the season.
Papasavvas recovered from seventh to finish second, while Dass secured his maiden FRAC podium in third. Shipman endured a more difficult contest and finished eighth, which reduced the championship advantage he had established at NOLA.
Changing weather then transformed Race 2 into one of the season’s most unpredictable contests. Race control aborted the original standing start after a driver reversed on the grid before sending the field away under a rolling start.
Papasavvas initially built a lead, but rain created treacherous conditions for drivers running on slick tyres. Several incidents triggered a caution and subsequent red flag before race control required the field to switch to wet-weather tyres.
Papasavvas resisted Hauanio during the short run to the finish and claimed his second victory of the campaign. Shipman crossed the line third but received a 30-second penalty for reversing on the grid, promoting Bogle onto the podium. Officials awarded half points because the race did not reach the required distance. They then cancelled Race 3 due to the continuing poor weather.
Papasavvas left Road America with 75.5 points and a 12.5-point lead over Shipman. Bogle, Hauanio and Golan followed closely, with only 21 points covering the leading five. Toney Driver Development retained the Teams’ Championship lead, although Crosslink reduced the gap to seven points.
Strickland won the Masters Cup classification in both completed races. His sixth-place overall finish in the wet second contest also represented his strongest outright result of the opening half of the season.

2026 FRAC Round 3: Hauanio breaks through as Papasavvas wins at home
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course produced another close fight at the front. Golan claimed his first pole of the season with a record-breaking 1:18.066, beating Papasavvas by only 0.077 seconds. Hauanio qualified third, with only 0.225 seconds covering the leading three.
Hauanio made the decisive move at the start of Race 1. The Crosslink rookie launched from third into the lead during the opening lap, while Papasavvas also moved ahead of Golan.
The three drivers remained closely matched throughout the 30-minute contest. A Safety Car eliminated Hauanio’s advantage, but he controlled the restart and claimed his maiden FRAC victory by 0.513 seconds. Papasavvas finished second, while Golan completed the podium.
Shipman started Race 2 from pole after recording the fastest lap in the opening contest. However, he made contact with Hauanio while they fought for the lead at Turn 2.
Papasavvas capitalised immediately and passed both drivers. He then controlled two Safety Car restarts before winning his home race by 0.598 seconds over Golan.
Dass crossed the line third, but officials moved him to the rear of the classification after technical checks found that his engine oil sat below the permitted minimum. Bogle therefore inherited his third podium of the season. Officials also handed Hauanio a 30-second penalty for causing the first-lap collision, dropping him to 10th.
Papasavvas collected 43 points across the weekend and extended his championship lead to 31 points. Golan climbed from fifth to second, only half a point ahead of Shipman. Bogle and Hauanio followed, leaving just 5.5 points between second and fifth.
Crosslink also moved ahead of Toney Driver Development in the Teams’ Championship. Papasavvas and Hauanio’s victories helped the team establish a 13-point advantage.
Strickland maintained his perfect Masters Cup record by winning both races. He therefore completed the opening three rounds with six class victories from six starts.

2026 FRAC Round 4: Golan sweeps Indianapolis and transforms the title fight
Indianapolis Motor Speedway delivered the first weekend sweep of the season.
Papasavvas narrowly led Practice, but Golan responded in Qualifying and claimed his second consecutive pole with a 1:22.508. Shipman qualified second, while Hauanio and Bogle followed.
Papasavvas faced a major setback after officials removed all his Qualifying times for returning to the paddock during the session. He consequently started Race 1 from 15th and last.
Golan controlled Race 1 from pole and managed his tyres after creating an early advantage. Behind him, Papasavvas gained nine positions during the opening lap and continued through the field before passing Shipman for second.
Golan eventually won by 2.686 seconds, with Papasavvas and Shipman completing the podium. However, the championship standings have not incorporated the Race 1 points because an appeal concerning the classification remains unresolved.
Papasavvas started Race 2 from pole and led most of the contest. However, a late Safety Car gave Golan another opportunity. He attacked at Turn 1 after the restart and completed the decisive pass on lap 13.
Shipman also produced a significant recovery after starting eighth. He caught Papasavvas and beat him to the Yard of Bricks by only 0.216 seconds, securing second behind Golan.
The final race followed a similar pattern. Papasavvas made the stronger start and passed Golan for the lead, but two Safety Car periods repeatedly removed his advantage.
Golan used the second restart to pressure Papasavvas before completing the winning move at Turn 2. He took the chequered flag 2.159 seconds ahead and completed his three-race sweep. Hauanio finished third, while officials awarded half points because the race did not meet the full-distance requirement.
Golan’s Indianapolis performance increased his season victory total from two to five. However, the official championship only includes his two Sunday victories because of the unresolved Race 1 appeal.
Papasavvas scored second, third and second on the road and retained the championship lead. Shipman added two podiums, while Hauanio recovered from a puncture in Race 2 to finish third in the finale.
Strickland, Autiello and Janzen shared the Masters Cup victories. Strickland’s Race 1 points also remain excluded from the class standings because of the wider appeal.
Round 4 summary

- Pole-sitter: Brady Golan
- Masters Cup winners: Whitney Strickland, Anthony Autiello, Kevin Janzen
- Drivers’ Championship leader: Evagoras Papasavvas

Four winners emerge from the opening 10 races
The first half produced 10 completed races, although officials awarded half points at Road America and during the Indianapolis finale.
Golan leads the winners’ list with five victories. He won the opening race at NOLA and Road America before completing his Indianapolis sweep.
Papasavvas follows with three wins after triumphing at NOLA, Road America and Mid-Ohio. Shipman claimed his only victory during the NOLA finale, while Hauanio joined the winners’ group with his Mid-Ohio breakthrough.
Papasavvas and Golan have also controlled Qualifying. Papasavvas took the opening two poles at NOLA and Road America before Golan responded with poles at Mid-Ohio and Indianapolis.
However, Papasavvas’s consistency explains his championship lead. He has finished on the podium eight times in 10 races, including every contest from Road America Race 1 through the Indianapolis finale.
Golan has seven podiums, while Shipman and Hauanio have five each. Bogle has not yet won, but three podium finishes and regular points have kept him fifth in the standings.
First-half summary
- Race winners: Brady Golan, Evagoras Papasavvas, Cooper Shipman, Kekai Hauanio
- Multiple race winners: Brady Golan and Evagoras Papasavvas
- Qualifying pole-sitters: Evagoras Papasavvas and Brady Golan
- Drivers to lead the championship: Cooper Shipman and Evagoras Papasavvas
- Current Drivers’ Championship leader: Evagoras Papasavvas
- Current Teams’ Championship leader: Crosslink Motorsports
- Current Masters Cup leader: Whitney Strickland
Strickland controls the Masters Cup despite Indianapolis setback
Strickland dominated the opening three rounds of the Masters Cup. He won both NOLA Saturday races before completing clean sweeps at Road America and Mid-Ohio.
He then recovered from a stalled start to win Indianapolis Race 1, taking his on-track total to seven victories. However, the unresolved appeal means the championship does not currently include those points.
Contact removed Strickland from Race 2, while he did not start the finale. Autiello and Janzen took advantage to claim the two Sunday victories.
Strickland still leads the Masters Cup with 66 points, 19.5 ahead of Janzen. Autiello sits third with 31 points after winning at NOLA and Indianapolis.
Crosslink and Toney enter second half separated by seven points
The Teams’ Championship has followed the changes at the front of the drivers’ contest.
Toney Driver Development led after NOLA and maintained the advantage at Road America through Golan, Bogle and Powers. Crosslink then moved ahead at Mid-Ohio after Hauanio and Papasavvas won the two races.
Golan’s Indianapolis sweep helped Toney reduce Crosslink’s lead from 13 points to seven. However, the official totals exclude Race 1.
Crosslink officially holds 251 points, with Toney on 244 and Kiwi Motorsport third on 150. Hillenburg Motorsports leads the chasing group in fourth.
The pending appeal could have a significant effect. Based on the provisional Indianapolis Race 1 classification and the standard points system, Golan would reduce Papasavvas’s Drivers’ Championship lead to 10.5 points. Toney would also move four points ahead of Crosslink if officials added the provisional Race 1 results without further changes. This remains a calculation based on the provisional order rather than the official championship position.
Conclusion: Papasavvas leads, but Golan carries the momentum
The opening half of the 2026 FRAC season has rewarded two different strengths.
Papasavvas leads because he has combined Qualifying speed with exceptional consistency. Even when officials removed his Indianapolis Qualifying times, he recovered from last to second and protected his advantage. His eight podiums have limited the effect of Golan’s higher victory total.
Nevertheless, Golan enters the second half with the strongest momentum. His Indianapolis sweep increased his total to five wins and showed that Toney Driver Development can challenge Crosslink across an entire weekend.
Shipman remains within reach after building his campaign around consistent podium finishes. Hauanio has added race-winning speed but must avoid the incidents and penalties that have restricted his points return. Meanwhile, Bogle continues to capitalise when rivals encounter trouble, even though he still seeks his first victory.
The unresolved Indianapolis appeal adds another variable to both championship battles. Papasavvas and Crosslink officially lead, but the provisional Race 1 results would bring Golan closer and move Toney ahead.
FRAC will resume at New Jersey Motorsports Park from 31 July to 2 August. Papasavvas will arrive as the championship leader, while Golan carries the momentum from the first complete weekend sweep of 2026.
