With six rounds of the 2025 F2 Championship season completed, Dino Beganovic stands in 10th position in the standings. His first full F2 season has not started the way a driver of his calibre would have expected. Beganovic has been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2020, joining during his Italian F4 season. While Prema is the team that usually houses the Ferrari Driver Academy, the Swede decided it was time for his journey with the Italian team to end.

After two F2 seasons with Prema, where he ended both the 2023 and 2024 F3 championships in 6th place, Beganovic switched to Hitech TGR for his F2 campaign. As a result, his first full F2 season brought a lot of new changes and challenges for the Swede. His best result so far is his P3 finish in the Imola GP Feature Race. Although, Dino Beganovic recently confessed he believes he can change his luck around and become a championship contender.

Opening round in Melbourne

The debut race of the 2025 F2 season was largely unfortunate for Hitech’s Beganovic. Despite a P7 in Qualifying on the streets of Albert Park, the Swedish driver spun out during the Sprint Race and lost many positions. However, he managed to finish the race, and after recovering from P17, he crossed the checkered flag 14th. Irregardless of his comeback, Dino Beganovic did not manage to claim a spot in the top 10.

The Feature Race was cancelled due to terrible weather conditions. This meant that the Swede left the Australian soil with no points, rather a disappointing season start.

Better luck in Bahrain

Almost a month after the season opener, Beganovic had a successful return to the track in Bahrain. This second round also marked a big milestone in the Swede’s career, something all the F2 and F3 drivers dream of. Thanks to his progress in the simulator and his place in the Ferrari Driver Academy, the Swede was granted the rights to drive Charles Leclerc’s SF-25 in an F1 Free Practice session. Riding the high into his Sprint Race, Beganovic secured his first podium of the 2025 F2 season.

Beganovic began the Sprint Race in the front row of the grid after a P9 result in Qualifying. It’s important to acknowledge that whilst the Swede finished P4, he led the pack for many laps around the Bahrain circuit. Following Joshua Dürksen’s disqualification, the Swedish driver received a further upgrade to his race results, promoting him to P3. The Feature Race was not as memorable for Beganovic, who after giving it his all, ended the session in 7th. This remains one of his best overall weekends in terms of points.

A weekend to forget in Saudi Arabia

Dampening the success of his weekend in Bahrain, Dino Beganovic faced a couple of problems in Jeddah. Surprisingly, despite a positive start to round 3 with the Swede securing P3 during Free Practice, the Hitech driver struggled immensely during Qualifying. This is the point that his teammate Luke Browning began to show Championship potential, boosting the pressure within his performance. While one Hitech driver managed to claim a top 10 throughout both races, Beganovic failed to match his performance.

The Swede finished the Sprint Race in 15th and the Feature Race in 13th. Comparisons to both his teammate and his previous seasons in F3 came into the conversations this weekend. Nonetheless, the pressure was on for Beganovic to deliver a standout weekend, which he could not seem to manage in the Saudi Arabian GP.

Back on European soil for the Imola GP

With the past struggles behind him and a well-needed break, Formula 2 returned to familiar circuits for the triple header. The Imola GP proved to bring the good luck that Beganovic needed. Being on the infamous Italian track, the Swede made his driver academy proud. His weekend did not start any differently from the rest, with a P14 in FP. Yet, Dino Beganovic put every single sector together perfectly in a single flying lap. This saw him qualifying in his first-ever F2 pole position, despite a poorly timed Red Flag.

This P1 in Italy meant the world to the Ferrari Academy Driver. The Sprint Race and its reverse grid format had Beganovic starting in P10; therefore, his P12 in the race was not so surprising. However, his best F2 career result came from the Feature Race. After a controversial overcut by his own teammate, the Swedish driver crossed the checkered flag in P3. With Hitech ending the weekend with a P2-P3 race result, Beganovic left Italy with an even bigger desire to prove himself.

Fifth round on the Monte Carlo streets

The Monaco GP was another frustrating round for Dino Beganovic, despite Imola appearing to be a turning point in his F2 season. Despite his P5 in FP, the Hitech driver struggled to keep his car within track limits. After he qualified P9 in Group A, Beganovic ended up 18th overall for the starting grids in both races. The Sprint Race showed slight improvement from the Swede, while also making some overtakes.

When it came to the Feature Race, Dino Beganovic managed to survive the crash train though Sainte Devote off of the start. Unfortunately, the Hitech driver began to struggle once the restart took place. With multiple run-offs messing up his confidence, a final tap of the wall as Beganovic approached Casino Square, saw him ending in the barriers. His race ended there, with his first DNF of the season.

A disappointing end to the Barcelona GP

Ending the triple header on the Spanish circuit, brought the hopes of more overtaking opportunities. This F2 round did not assist Beganovic’s quest to put himself in championship contention. His weekend began very similarly to the rest, with pace and potential shown in FP.

However, when Qualifying came around, the Hitech driver put his car in 12th, going on to struggle to make progress during the Sprint Race. This caused him to lose multiple positions. Sharing the same outcome as the Sprint Race, the Barcelona Feature Race saw Beganovic ending the weekend with a P15 finish.

What does this mean for his championship fight?

Unfortunately for Dino Beganovic, his first six races of the 2025 season have not been the greatest. In terms of both Qualifying and Race pace, the Swedish driver still has a lot of learning to do, in order to start gaining points and advance in the F2 Drivers’ Championship. Still, the Swede himself admitted that his goal for this year is winning, believing his season can still turn around.
