The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) returns to action this weekend in Barcelona for the eighth and antepenultimate round of the 2025 season. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, also home to this year’s Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, will host the latest instalment of an increasingly tense title battle.
A close fight for the title
After an intense double-header at the Red Bull Ring, the fight for supremacy is closer than ever. Freddie Slater (Prema Racing) arrives in Catalunya as championship leader with 198 points, holding a slender three-point margin over Matteo De Palo (Trident Motorsport). The Italian reignited his campaign in Austria with victory and remains one of the most consistent contenders on the grid.
Hot on their heels is Enzo Deligny (R-ace GP). The Frenchman stood on the podium at Spielberg, adding to earlier wins at Spa-Francorchamps and Imola, and currently sits third overall. Just behind him lies Pedro Clerot (Van Amersfoort Racing), who scored his second win of the year in Austria and continues to show strong form.
Akshay Bohra (R-ace GP) rounds out the top five and has already proven himself a race winner and constant front-runner. Among those looking to challenge in Spain are Evan Giltaire (ART Grand Prix), Rashid Al Dhaheri (Prema Racing), and Hiyu Yamakoshi (Van Amersfoort Racing), each still in the hunt for strong season finishes. Nikita Bedrin (Saintéloc Racing) has been a man in form, claiming two podiums in the last three outings, while Taito Kato (ART Grand Prix) is renowned for his determined comebacks in the midfield.
R-ace GP’s Jin Nakamura joined teammate Deligny on the podium at Spielberg, while Prema’s Jack Beeton and ART’s Kanato Le continue to push to close the gap to the leading group. In the rookie standings, Dion Gowda (Van Amersfoort Racing) remains the benchmark. Further back, Michael Belov spearheads CL Motorsport’s efforts, with Enea Frey returning after a promising debut at the Red Bull Ring to continue his development.
Weekend schedule
The action begins on Friday with two Collective Test sessions at 09:48 and 15:15. Qualifying 1 will take place on Saturday at 11:25, setting the grid for Race 1 later that afternoon at 17:45. On Sunday, Qualifying 2 is scheduled for 09:50, with Race 2 bringing the curtain down on the weekend at 16:50.
With just three rounds remaining, the Barcelona clash promises to be pivotal in shaping the outcome of the 2025 FRECA championship.
