George Russell went into the qualifying hour as favourite. The Mercedes driver was quickest in FP3, having gone P1 in opening practice on Friday as well. While Kimi Antonelli did not get a clean run in on his final set of softs thanks to traffic, the Italian headed into it looking like he had a big fight on his hands against the McLarens and Charles Leclerc.

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen looked to be battling for P6 on the evidence of the three practice sessions, with Audi and Racing Bulls set to head the midfield as Alpine struggled massively for any grip and pace.

At the back, Cadillac seemed to have an advantage over Aston Martin as they would be fighting for P19-P22 barring mistakes from other drivers.
