After the Endurance Cup opener at Circuit Paul Ricard set the early tone, Brands Hatch brought two fast-paced Sprint races that reshuffled the combined standings and gave several crews their first major points haul of the year.

Winward Racing leaves Brands Hatch on top of the overall Teams’ standings, while Lucas Auer and Maro Engel lead the Drivers’ championship. The weekend also delivered plenty of Sprint Cup drama, from Lionspeed GP’s qualifying sweep to AF Corse’s Race 1 victory and Lionspeed’s Race 2 redemption.

Brands Hatch served as Round 1 of the 2026 GTWC Europe Sprint Cup. The Sprint Cup standings do not reflect points scored during Endurance Cup events. As such, these standings exclude points scored at Circuit Paul Ricard.

2026 GTWC Europe Standings after Brands Hatch: Sprint Cup: Overall

The opening Sprint Cup weekend at Brands Hatch delivered a dramatic start to the short-format campaign. Team WRT began strongly in practice as Kelvin van der Linde put the No. 32 BMW on top in Free Practice 1, while Dani Juncadella then led Free Practice 2 for Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing.

Qualifying belonged to Lionspeed GP, with Ricardo Feller and Bastian Buus sweeping both pole positions in the No. 80 Porsche. However, the races told a more unpredictable story. Despite that mixed weekend for the frontrunners, Comtoyou Racing leaves Brands Hatch at the head of the Sprint Cup Teams’ standings with 33 points. Winward Racing sits second on 25, while Garage 59 holds third on 19. In the Drivers’ standings, Marco Sørensen, Mattia Drudi, and Nicki Thiim lead with 33 points, ahead of Lucas Auer, Luca Stolz, and Maro Engel on 25.

The Endurance Cup standings do not reflect points scored during Sprint Cup events. While Brands Hatch served as Round 2 of the overall 2026 GTWC Europe powered by AWS season, and as Round 1 of the Sprint Cup, it was not part of the Endurance Cup. As such, the Endurance Cup standings exclude points scored at Brands Hatch and remain unchanged from the season-opening event at Circuit Paul Ricard.

At Paul Ricard, Comtoyou Racing opened the Endurance Cup season with victory after a dramatic late-race turnaround. The No. 007 Aston Martin crew of Marco Sørensen, Mattia Drudi, and Nicki Thiim recovered from an early puncture and used a late Safety Car to close in on Winward Racing. Thiim then passed Lucas Auer in the closing stages to seal the win by less than a second. Garage 59 completed the overall podium and also led the Gold Cup, while Pure Rxcing topped Silver Cup and Rutronik Racing dominated Bronze Cup.

A championship picture beginning to form

2026 GTWC Europe standings after Brands Hatch as Winward Racing leads overall and Sprint Cup battles reshape the title fight.

After two very different opening events, the 2026 GTWC Europe season is already beginning to develop several clear storylines. Circuit Paul Ricard rewarded endurance execution, late-race strategy, and recovery drives, while Brands Hatch immediately showed how unpredictable the Sprint Cup can be.

Winward Racing leaves Brands Hatch at the top of the combined overall Teams’ standings, but Comtoyou Racing, Team WRT, and Garage 59 remain close enough to keep the championship fight wide open. In the Drivers’ standings, Lucas Auer and Maro Engel have taken the early lead, though Nicki Thiim, Marco Sorensen, Mattia Drudi, Kelvin van der Linde, and Charles Weerts are all within striking distance.

The class battles are just as tightly poised. CSA Racing leads Gold Cup overall, Team WRT has built an early Silver Cup advantage, and Rutronik Racing remains in control of Bronze Cup after its strong Paul Ricard performance. In the Sprint Cup, AF Corse and Team WRT have already established themselves as early class benchmarks, while the Endurance Cup standings remain frozen until the next long-distance round.

With the Sprint Cup now underway and the Endurance Cup set to resume, the early championship order is far from settled. Brands Hatch has added momentum for some and pressure for others, setting up a fascinating next phase of the 2026 GTWC Europe season.
