Qualifying threw up plenty of surprises. While Christian Lundgaard securing pole was not a massive shock, Arrow McLaren teammate Pato O’Ward joining him on the front row was a small surprise.
Christian Rasmussen and Rinus VeeKay were positive shocks as they made it into the Fast 6. Alex Palou and Kyle Kirkwood, both very fast in practice, could only manage 8th and 10th on the grid.
The three Kiwis had a shocker. Scott Dixon, Scott McLaughlin and Marcus Armstrong all exited in round 1. The #3 was slapped with a grid penalty for an unapproved engine change, moving him from 17th to 23rd on the grid.
