Charlie Wurz will make his prototype racing debut with Algarve Pro Racing (APR) in the 2026/27 Asian Le Mans Series (ALMS), joining Jens Reno Møller and Theodor Jensen in the team’s No. 20 Oreca 07-Gibson. The Austrian’s move into LMP2 marks a significant step in his career following two seasons in FIA Formula 3 (F3) and his transition to Japanese motorsport in 2026.
The 20-year-old becomes the latest addition to APR’s three-car LMP2 programme as the Portuguese outfit targets another championship title. Meanwhile, Møller and Jensen bring considerable prototype racing experience, having both competed in LMP2 during the past year. Møller secured an LMP2 Pro/Am victory in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS), while Jensen made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The announcement, made on Friday, 30 October, confirms APR’s second driver combination ahead of the season opener at Circuit Paul Ricard on 14–15 November. The team has already retained its championship-winning trio of Michael Jensen, Enzo Trulli and Malthe Jakobsen for the No. 25 Oreca.
Wurz prepares for prototype racing debut following single-seater career
Wurz will make the transition to LMP2 after progressing through several junior single-seater championships, including F4, Formula Regional and F3. The Austrian enjoyed early success in his career, securing the 2022 F4 UAE Championship before winning the 2023 Formula Regional Oceania Championship.
He subsequently stepped up to F3 with Jenzer Motorsport in 2024 before joining TRIDENT for his second campaign in 2025. Although he encountered several challenges during his two seasons in the championship, Wurz demonstrated competitive pace and secured important results as he continued developing his racecraft.
His 2025 F3 campaign included two Sprint Race podium finishes at Spa-Francorchamps and the Hungaroring, where he claimed third place on both occasions. Furthermore, Wurz narrowly missed another podium during the Hungary Feature Race, finishing fourth after a competitive performance.
The Austrian ultimately finished 13th in the Drivers’ Championship with 53 points, improving upon his 22nd-place finish during his rookie season.
Following his departure from F3, Wurz moved to Japan for 2026, joining Team Goh in Super Formula. He also gained experience in GT racing through two appearances in the SUPER GT GT300 category with apr, driving a Lexus LC 500h GT. The Japanese team operates independently of Algarve Pro Racing despite sharing the same abbreviation.
These programmes provided Wurz with experience in different racing environments, although the upcoming Asian Le Mans Series will introduce him to prototype competition for the first time.
The move also carries additional significance given his family’s history in endurance racing. His father, former F1 driver Alex Wurz, won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1996 and 2009, establishing himself as a successful prototype racer.
Wurz now has an opportunity to follow a similar path as he prepares to compete in one of endurance racing’s leading prototype categories.
Reflecting on his new programme, the Austrian expressed his enthusiasm for joining APR and developing his understanding of LMP2 machinery.
“I am excited and proud to join the APR team for the Asian Le Mans Series 2026/27,”
“APR has an incredible track record in LMP2, and I’m looking forward to learning all I can from them and doing my best with this new challenge,”
“As a long-time fan of endurance racing, I’m super pumped to get on track next week.”
Although Wurz has competed in high-performance single-seaters and GT machinery, the Oreca 07-Gibson will introduce different demands, particularly regarding traffic management, longer driving stints and the shared responsibilities of endurance racing.
Nevertheless, his previous experience and APR’s established LMP2 programme should provide a strong foundation as he adapts to the new category.
Møller brings ELMS race-winning experience to APR
Jens Reno Møller will fulfil the FIA Bronze-rated driver role in the No. 20 Oreca, providing an experienced presence alongside Wurz and Jensen.
The Danish driver has developed an extensive background in endurance racing, competing across GT3, LMP3 and LMP2 before joining the Portuguese outfit. His previous achievements include success in international GT competition, while his recent prototype performances have established him as a competitive Bronze-rated driver.
Møller previously competed in the Asian Le Mans Series with High Class Racing, where he demonstrated impressive qualifying speed during the 2025/26 campaign. Notably, he became the only driver to prevent Giorgio Roda from completing a clean sweep of the season’s LMP2 qualifying sessions.
He subsequently joined Vector Sport for the 2026 ELMS season, sharing the No. 7 Oreca-Gibson with Cem Bölükbaşı and Lorenzo Fluxá.
The trio secured its maiden LMP2 Pro/Am victory at the 4 Hours of Imola in July, following an intense battle with Algarve Pro Racing. Fluxá eventually crossed the finish line just 4.103 seconds ahead of Malthe Jakobsen, delivering Vector Sport’s first victory of the season.
The result established Møller as an ELMS race winner and contributed to Vector Sport’s fifth-place finish in the final LMP2 Pro/Am standings. The team ended the campaign with 65 points, just 21 behind championship-winning APR.
Having competed against Algarve Pro Racing throughout the European season, Møller will now join the organisation he previously challenged for class victories.
The Dane believes the Asian Le Mans Series’ condensed format could help the new crew develop its working relationship quickly, particularly as all three drivers prepare to race together for the first time.
“The Asian Le Mans Series offers a lot of racing in a very compressed timetable and that can mean that our new-look crew can learn together very quickly,”
“I hope that my experience and the undoubted speed of Charlie and Theodor can put us in a position to compete hard in what is looking like a very impressive LMP2 field. I’m looking forward to experiencing what Algarve Pro Racing do well. Their race and Championship-winning record speaks for itself.”
Møller’s experience could prove particularly valuable during the opening rounds, with Wurz still adapting to prototype machinery and Jensen continuing to develop his LMP2 career.
Furthermore, the Dane’s familiarity with the Asian Le Mans Series should help the crew prepare for the championship’s demanding double-header weekends, where teams must maximise performance across two four-hour races in quick succession.
Jensen continues LMP2 development after Le Mans debut
Theodor Jensen completes APR’s No. 20 line-up, bringing further prototype racing experience despite being just 20 years old.
The Danish driver has already achieved considerable success in LMP3, securing the 2024/25 Asian Le Mans Series championship before progressing into LMP2 competition.
Jensen initially developed his endurance racing career with CLX Motorsport, where he gained experience alongside several emerging prototype drivers. His successful LMP3 programmes subsequently provided the foundation for his move into the faster LMP2 category.
The Dane made his LMP2 debut during the 2025/26 Asian Le Mans Series, gaining experience alongside Møller before continuing his development through a full European campaign.
For 2026, Jensen joined Adrien Closmenil and Ian Aguilera in CLX Motorsport’s No. 37 Oreca-Gibson for the ELMS and 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Their participation at Le Mans represented an important milestone for all three young drivers. The CLX Motorsport crew had an average age of approximately 19, making them one of the youngest driver combinations to compete in the event.
Furthermore, the trio finished fifth in LMP2, completing a successful debut at one of endurance racing’s most demanding events.
Jensen subsequently continued his European campaign with CLX Motorsport, gaining further experience in LMP2 competition and developing his understanding of race strategy, tyre management and traffic.
His move to APR therefore offers another opportunity to progress while reuniting with Møller, who already has experience working alongside the young Dane.
Reflecting on the upcoming season, Jensen expressed his confidence in the new driver combination and highlighted the reputation APR has established within the endurance racing paddock.
“I have enjoyed my first season in LMP2 and hope to bring some of the lessons I have learned to this effort,”
“To anyone who has shared a paddock with APR, you cannot fail but to be impressed by their record. I know that’s been a big part of the moves that have put Jens, Charlie and myself together and I know that all three of us can’t wait to go racing.”
Having already competed in major endurance events, Jensen will aim to apply the lessons from his previous campaigns while continuing his development alongside Wurz and Møller.
Algarve Pro Racing targets seventh Asian Le Mans Series title
APR enters the 2026/27 Asian Le Mans Series following another successful year across international endurance racing, with the Portuguese team aiming to extend its record to seven LMP2 titles in the championship.
The organisation has established itself among the leading LMP2 operations through its performances in the ELMS, Asian Le Mans Series and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
During 2026, APR secured four major championship titles and celebrated class victories at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, 24 Hours of Le Mans and Motul Petit Le Mans. Its programmes also achieved nine race and class wins alongside a further 14 podium finishes across Europe, Asia and North America.
The team’s Asian Le Mans Series campaign included a remarkable overall 1-2-3 finish at Dubai in January, highlighting the strength of its multi-car programme.
For the upcoming season, APR will again field three LMP2 entries, combining established championship-winning crews with younger drivers and new additions.
Alongside Wurz, Møller and Jensen in the No. 20 Oreca, the team has already confirmed the return of Michael Jensen, Enzo Trulli and Malthe Jakobsen in its No. 25 entry.
The trio recently secured the 2026 ELMS LMP2 Pro/Am Championship following a dramatic season finale at Portimão, where a late penalty for TDS Racing promoted APR to class victory.
Their success delivered another championship for the Portuguese outfit, with the crew finishing the season on 86 points, nine clear of TDS Racing in the final LMP2 Pro/Am standings.
Meanwhile, the third APR entry will compete under the CrowdStrike Racing by APR name, with George Kurtz returning to defend the LMP2 championship.
The three-car programme will therefore feature a combination of established champions, experienced endurance racers and emerging talent as the organisation pursues further success.
Team Principal Stewart Cox welcomed the latest additions, highlighting APR’s commitment to helping new drivers develop while maintaining its competitive ambitions.
“We love winning at Algarve Pro Racing, and we love bringing new faces to the team and helping them to find their best possible form very quickly.
“This trio has huge potential, and we expect them to be competitive from the start of the season, and to improve further from there.
“If they can do that, then I hope that they can make a full contribution to another championship win for the team.”
The comments underline APR’s expectations for its newest crew, particularly as the organisation aims to build on its strong recent results.
European calendar presents new challenge for Wurz and APR
The 2026/27 Asian Le Mans Series will feature six four-hour races across three European circuits, introducing an unusual geographical change to the championship’s traditional winter schedule.
Following uncertainty surrounding events in the Middle East, organisers moved the campaign to Europe, selecting Circuit Paul Ricard, Circuito de Jerez and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve as the host venues.
The revised calendar maintains the championship’s double-header format, with two races scheduled at each circuit. Consequently, teams will have limited opportunities to recover from setbacks, making consistency and reliability particularly important.
The official Asian Le Mans Series calendar confirms the following dates:
- Circuit Paul Ricard, France — 13–15 November 2026
- Circuito de Jerez, Spain — 15–17 January 2027
- Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, Portugal — 19–21 February 2027
The championship has also confirmed a maximum 47-car full-season entry, including 16 LMP2 prototypes, 29 GT3 cars and two Ferrari 499Ps competing in the newly introduced Hypercar category.
APR will therefore face considerable competition from established international endurance racing teams, including United Autosports, Inter Europol Competition and DKR Engineering.
Furthermore, the revised calendar could provide an interesting challenge for the No. 20 crew. While Wurz will need to adapt quickly to the Oreca, Møller and Jensen can draw upon their previous prototype racing experience to accelerate the team’s development.
The final double-header at Portimão will also bring APR to its home circuit, where the organisation recently celebrated its ELMS championship success.
Wurz prepares for new chapter in endurance racing
Wurz’s move to Algarve Pro Racing represents a significant transition following his progression through the junior single-seater categories and his recent experience in Japan.
Although the Austrian has already competed in GT machinery, the Asian Le Mans Series will mark his first opportunity to race a prototype in an international endurance championship.
However, he will benefit from an experienced organisation and two teammates who have already demonstrated their competitiveness in LMP2.
Møller brings race-winning experience from the ELMS, while Jensen continues his development following championship success in LMP3 and his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Together, the trio will aim to establish a competitive partnership within APR’s wider three-car programme as the team pursues another Asian Le Mans Series championship title.
With the opening weekend approaching at Circuit Paul Ricard, Wurz will now focus on adapting to the Oreca 07-Gibson as he begins the next chapter of his motorsport career.
