Noah Strømsted delivered one of his most composed drives of the 2026 FIA Formula 3 (F3) season at the Red Bull Ring, rising from fourth on the grid to claim the Feature Race victory in the Spielberg Round after expertly timing his charge through a fiercely contested lead battle. Rather than forcing the issue in the opening laps, the TRIDENT driver remained patient as Ugo Ugochukwu, Freddie Slater and Hiyu Yamakoshi traded positions ahead of him, preserving his tyres before making the decisive moves in the closing stages. The strategy paid off perfectly, with Strømsted taking the lead three laps from the finish before comfortably securing his second win of the campaign.

Despite finishing on the podium, Strømsted admitted after the race that the afternoon had not gone according to plan, with poor getaways at both the start and the Virtual Safety Car restart costing him track position. Despite those setbacks, he felt the pace of the car gave him confidence that remaining in the leading group would present an opportunity later in the race.

“Yeah, the car was very good. I struggled a bit in the start, I lost a few positions and in the restart of the virtual safety car. And from there I was just trying to stay in the train and save my tyres as much as possible to go for it in the end.”

Strømsted reflecting on the Feature Race victory

The victory also represented an important response following a more difficult weekend in Barcelona. Despite showing competitive race pace throughout much of the season, TRIDENT has often been left with too much work to do after qualifying, making Sunday’s triumph particularly satisfying for the 18-year-old.

Reflecting on returning to the top step of the podium in the F3 Spielberg Feature Race, Strømsted said the result was a welcome reward after several weekends in which the speed had been there but the results had not.

“Yeah, it was very nice finally to fight in the front again. I mean, we’ve always had good race pace this season, we’ve just been struggling a bit in the qualifying. To get this weekend and get the win here is very important for me to get the season started.”

While the constant battles for the lead unfolded in front of him, Strømsted resisted the temptation to attack too early. Instead, he focused on preserving his tyres, allowing him to capitalise as those ahead began to lose performance in the closing laps.

The Dane explained that although the approach demanded patience, it ultimately proved to be the winning strategy.

“Yeah, it was a bit boring at some points, just waiting behind. But I mean, sometimes you just need to stay calm and save your tyres. That’s how it is in F3 and that’s what we did.”

Looking ahead to Silverstone

The result provides a significant confidence boost ahead of next weekend’s visit to Silverstone, where Strømsted hopes another strong qualifying performance will allow him to fight for victory once again.

Looking ahead to the Silverstone Round next week, his target is straightforward.

“We’ll just try to do the same again, qualify well inside the top 10 and go for it in the races.”

With TRIDENT’s race pace once again on full display and renewed momentum behind him, Strømsted leaves Spielberg looking to build on a victory that showcased not only outright speed, but also the patience and race management required to win in Formula 3.
