Maciej Gładysz made an immediate impact on his 2026 F3 debut in Melbourne, delivering a composed and competitive performance that underlined both his pace and maturity. The ART Grand Prix driver secured fourth place in Qualifying and converted that strong starting position into two top-six finishes, including a P5 result in the Feature Race.

While many rookies require time to adapt to the intensity of F3 competition, Gładysz instead demonstrated confidence and control from the outset. As a result, he leaves the opening round with valuable points, momentum, and growing belief ahead of the long season still to come.

Composed mindset drives Gładysz to success on strong 2026 F3 opening weekend in Melbourne

Gładysz credited his Melbourne success to a calm and disciplined approach, which allowed him to maximise performance without placing unnecessary pressure on himself. By focusing on execution rather than expectation, he ensured a smooth transition into F3 machinery and race conditions.

“It was a really good way to start the season. We’re not done yet, nine rounds to come, but for a first round, it was really positive. We started off qualifying pretty well. P4 I think is a great way to start the season.

This strong start in Qualifying immediately set the tone for the rest of the weekend and gave him confidence heading into the races.

“It builds confidence for the next round. The most important thing is to stay calm, not put any pressure on yourself for the upcoming rounds and not to get overexcited. I have to remain humble, be confident and just enjoy it.

Rather than allowing expectations to rise too quickly, he deliberately kept his approach grounded and focused. Thus, looking ahead, he made it clear that maintaining this mindset will be crucial to sustaining performance across the season.

“That’s what matters for me, to enjoy it, be calm and humble and not to overreact. It’s important to go into the weekend with the same approach as I had in Melbourne. If we can keep going like that in the next few rounds, we might be looking really strong for the remainder of the season. Until then, I’ll just enjoy it.”

This measured mentality not only helped him perform under pressure but also laid the groundwork for consistency across future rounds.

Qualifying strength proves decisive

A major highlight of Gładysz’s weekend came in Qualifying, where he secured fourth place on the grid. On a circuit like Melbourne, where overtaking opportunities remain limited, track position plays a crucial role in shaping race outcomes.

Importantly, Gładysz improved as the session progressed. After an initial run that did not fully meet his expectations, he adapted quickly and extracted more performance when it mattered most. This ability to respond under pressure reflects both confidence and technical awareness.

Consequently, his strong Qualifying position placed him firmly in contention across both races and allowed him to avoid the challenges often faced by drivers starting deeper in the field.

2026 F3 race performances in Melbourne highlight both progress and potential for Gładysz

Gładysz carried his Qualifying pace into the races, securing consistent results across the weekend. However, despite finishing inside the top five in the Sprint Race, he recognised that certain moments prevented an even stronger outcome.

External factors, including a red flag interruption and a Safety Car period, disrupted his rhythm. In particular, the restart phase proved challenging, offering a valuable learning opportunity.

“I didn’t expect to be in this position, but you need to have a mentality of being positive and going into Qualifying with good momentum. The races were quite good. I think the Sprint would have been good if not the Red Flag. We had really good tyres and then the crash happened, so it was quite unfortunate.

In the Feature Race, he experienced a shift in confidence following the Safety Car, which impacted his performance in the closing stages. While he openly acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining focus during the restart phase, he still secured a strong result to begin his championship campaign.

“The Feature Race was quite good until Lap 10. Then the Safety Car came out, and I started to make a few more mistakes. I think I got a bit distracted after the Safety Car restart. I was not as confident as I was before that. But P5, 10 points in the Championship is a good way to start.”

Learning curve and rapid development

Although Melbourne marked his first F3 weekend, Gładysz demonstrated a strong understanding of the championship’s demands. From tyre management to race control, he showed a well-rounded skill set that can be developed further over the course of the season.

At the same time, his honest assessment of his performance highlights a willingness to learn. By identifying specific areas for improvement—such as maintaining focus during restarts—he positions himself to make steady progress in upcoming rounds.

This combination of self-awareness and adaptability could prove decisive as the season unfolds.

Gładysz sets consistency in Qualifying as key objective for 2026 F3 campaign after strong start in Melbourne

Looking forward, Gładysz has placed a clear emphasis on maintaining consistent Qualifying performances. In F3, where grid position often dictates race strategy and potential, regular top-12 starts can significantly increase the chances of scoring strong results.

Moreover, such consistency opens the door to fighting for podiums and, potentially, the championship.

“We could have been on the podium like Taito was. Qualifying didn’t feel like it was 30 minutes, but it felt amazing. Maybe the first set wasn’t as good as I expected, but then after I improved my driving and went into the top five, qualified in fourth.

“It felt really good in the car. I really enjoyed driving this track. It’s one of my favourite tracks now. I hope I’ll keep this momentum for the rest of the season and keep qualifying in the top 12.

“That’s the goal because if you qualify in top 12 in almost every race, then I think you can have a chance of winning the Championship.”

His focus on Qualifying underlines a strategic approach to the season, built around maximising opportunities across every race weekend.

Momentum balanced with long-term focus

Despite his impressive debut, Gładysz remains firmly grounded. Rather than allowing early success to create pressure, he continues to prioritise consistency, calmness and enjoyment.

With nine rounds still to come, maintaining this mindset will be essential. Encouragingly, his Melbourne performance suggests that he already possesses both the pace and the discipline required to compete at a high level in F3.

If he continues to build on this foundation, Gładysz could quickly establish himself as a regular contender throughout the 2026 season.
