Felipe Drugovich achieved his best Formula E result yet at Race 1 of the Monaco E-Prix. After a solid race, the Brazilian finished with a strong P4. Pit Debrief spoke with Drugovich in the media pen after the race concluded.
A bold move and a good job from Drugovich
The first race of the Monaco E-Prix weekend came with chaos. Drugovich started tenth on the grid and fought his way through the field. Eventually, he finished P4, grabbing more points for the Andretti team.
Speaking with Pit Debrief about his race and what led to the good performance, he said:
“I think we did a good job. We took a bold move in the pit boost, just trying to stay out and push like crazy, which made us pay a little bit at the end, not having much energy left, but I think it was a good move and I’m happy with it. There’s no secret to it, I think it’s just improving every single bit that I’ve been managing to improve.”
When asked if he was comfortable with the car from the start of the weekend or if it was built from session to session, he explained:
“I think it’s just trying to build from session to session. Obviously only two days, so not much to build from, but I think we just needed to go out there and push for it.”
Staying out of trouble at the Monaco E-Prix
While the Monaco E-Prix began more quietly than expected, the chaos came a few laps in. With several drivers having contact, crashes, and near-collisions, driving a clean race became important. The drivers who had a steady and clean race were the ones who lucked out in Monaco this time around. As the close walls surround the streets, it creates a big challenge for the drivers.
Asked what the biggest challenge was, Drugovich said:
“Staying out of trouble honestly, staying clean, and not crashing.”
Continuing to explain whether a podium could have been on the cards, the Andretti driver said:
“I think we had a few things that we did wrong. We could have finished on the podium. Everyone will have their ifs and it is what it is.”
While a podium finish was possible, Drugovich still had a strong day at the Monaco E-Prix. If the team manage to build on their strengths even further over the next day, Sunday could be strong.
